Vice President of Operations for NEET
Hi there! I’m LaMargo “Margie” Sweezer-Fischer, but you can call me Margie. I’m currently serving as the Vice President of Operations for NextEra Energy Transmission (NEET), a subsidiary of NextEra Energy (NEE). In my role, I oversee operations and maintenance, including real-time system operations, for our transmission and substation assets across the United States and Canada. Before stepping into this role, I’ve had the privilege to serve NEE subsidiaries, NextEra Energy Resources and Florida Power & Light (FPL), in various executive and senior director roles. I’ve led technical services and reliability efforts for NEER and FPL’s fleet of solar and energy storage generating assets, directed technology and innovation development for NextEra Energy’s operating fleet of fossil, solar, and wind generating assets, and managed power delivery reliability. During my time leading power delivery reliability, FPL was honored with the national ReliabilityOne Award back-to-back, a testament to our team’s hard work and commitment. I started my journey with the company back in 1999, working in substation engineering. Over time, I’ve been able to contribute my skills and knowledge to areas like smart grid device deployment and strategy, capacity planning, equipment performance, customer power quality, and strategic continuous improvement initiatives. My academic background includes a Master of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University and a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Tuskegee University, where I graduated summa cum laude. I’m also a proud graduate of Harvard Business School, a patented inventor, and a certified six sigma blackbelt. Beyond my professional responsibilities, I serve as Chair of the Industry Advisory Board for the electrical and computer engineering programs at Tuskegee University. I’m a Scott-Hawkins Leadership Fellow, a past president of The West Palm Beach Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, a volunteer service organization for women, and a charter member of Alpha Alpha Upsilon Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In 2020, I was deeply honored to receive the Lew Hay Award for Outstanding Leadership from NextEra Energy, and in 2021, the Legacy of Service Award from the African American Professional Employee Group at NextEra Energy. These recognitions are a testament to my passion for leadership, innovation, and service – values I strive to bring to everything I do.
